If we may be so bold, it is the position of several members of the Lakeshore Kia product expert team that the latest version of the Kia Sportage is the best one yet. Now it has arrived at our showroom, we can confidently say that the performance and towing specs for the 2020 Kia Sportage place it at, or near the top of one of the most competitive segments in the global automotive industry. In addition to offering a functional balance between capability and efficiency, the 2020 Sportage picks up a few new aesthetic elements that will help it separate itself from the rest of the pack. If this is the kind of vehicle that would meet your needs, let’s take a look at what it has to offer before you schedule a test drive.
Kia engineers have provided a pair of powertrain options to buyers interested in the 2020 Sportage. The LX, S and EX trim grades all have a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter, four-cylinder under the hood that is attached to a six-speed automatic transmission. Drivers of these models can expect the standard engine and transmission combination to produce 181 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. Front- and rear-wheel-drive versions are available.
For a little bit more performance output, the aptly named SX Turbo trim employs a turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that is mated to a six-speed automatic gear-changer. This top-of-the-line model of the 2020 Sportage will make 240 horsepower when equipped with front-wheel-drive and 237 horsepower when power is sent to all four wheels. Both drivetrains will get 260 pound-feet of torque.
The 2020 Kia Sportage can tow loads up to 2,000 pounds when the vehicle and trailer are properly equipped. However, that number drops a bit to just over 1,600 pounds for versions of the new Sportage pulling trailers without brakes.
